MINNEAPOLIS-Minneapolis City Council Public Works Committee will discuss Tuesday possibly replacing the city's meters with meters that accept credit cards.

The plan would affect 6,500 meters.

If this plan is approved, meters would accept credit and debit cards as well as dollar bills.

Tuesday's hearing is the first step in approving this change.

Some of the proposed disadvantages to the current coin accepting system is the increased malfunctioning rate of the meters.

Also, there are as many as 50 failed meters at one time and due to the outdated technology, the parts are becoming obsolete.
